WPST General Requirements
Below is a summary of the minimum requirements for WPST eligibility. All riders are expected to have motivation and the maturity that is required for self-improvement at each training session. Having achieved the below requirements is not the end goal, rather it is the beginning. It is merely a reference point to ensure all team members are ready to take the next step in their individual riding at the WPST level.
• Athletes must demonstrate the desire to train, develop, and improve their existing technique and skills. This includes training on both fundamental and innovative techniques.
• Emphasis will be placed on developing the weaknesses of a rider's technical ability, not merely developing strong areas.
• Desire to be an active and participating member of a TEAM
• You can accomplish more when you work together as a team – even competing in an individual sport!
• Athletes must demonstrate their willingness to be part of a TEAM. This includes supporting teammates and other fellow riders on and off the mountain. (See WPST Responsibility Code)
All-Terrain Program Requirements:
Riders in the all-terrain program should be comfortable riding in a variety of snow conditions and be confident on blue-black runs. Local competitions are optional for those interested.
Terrain Park Program Requirements:
Ability to confidently ride in all conditions on all terrain on the mountain.
Ability to ride forward and switch (unnatural foot forward) on a variety of terrain and desire to learn terrain park skills both forward and switch.
Desire and stamina to focus training each week on specific terrain park features and spend most training days in the terrain parks.
Desire to compete in local and regional events: terrain park program riders are strongly encouraged to participate in both Winter Park and USASA Rocky Mountain Series events throughout the season. Although not required, experiencing a competitive atmosphere will motivate and develop confident riding technique.
