Parent Information
The Winter Park Snowboard Team (WPST) is designed to provide a structured training program for riders serious about skill progression in a fun environment. Consequently, in addition to strong riding skills (see riding criteria and eligibility), potential team members must consistently demonstrate a certain level of MATURITY, PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, INDEPENDENCE and ACCOUNTABILITY.
Team Riders are expected to be comfortable with the following list of Team expectations (without assistance):
-
Familiar with the mountain environment (weather, snow conditions, lifts, etc)
Why? Team Riders must be comfortable in all weather and snow conditions. Training and/or competition days rarely occur in perfect weather. Tolerance for all conditions is important.
-
Can effectively operate AND adjust their equipment (in all conditions)
Why? Coaches want to dedicate their time to teaching skills and techniques, not getting riders in and out of bindings, gloves, etc.
-
Demonstrate mature mountain etiquette and sportsmanship
Why? Bad resort or park and pipe etiquette is NOT tolerated. WPST Riders are expected to represent the Competition Center and the Team well, on and off the mountain! Supporting other team riders is expected.
-
Move quickly and efficiently around the resort & on-mountain
Why? Riders that get separated from the group are expected to be able to either find the group or get to the base of the resort safely. The many of the team groups practice in predictable areas, reconnecting with the Team is not difficult.
-
Riding on appropriate equipment
Why? Riders are expected to be using recent equipment that is properly fitted, adjusted and tuned. Poorly set-up equipment can hinder technique and cause potential injury. "Stubbies", short-highback, and/or baseless bindings are not allowed. Step-ins are not recommended.
